Light Amplification Disclaimer:
-Sunlight can reflect off gel-coat surfaces to damage the Marine Mat product.
For certain applications and under certain conditions, Marine Mat applied in the cockpit and other areas with vertical surfaces and/or reflecting off hardware/stainless, etc., can be exposed to temperatures above the operational temperature of 165oF (73oC). Lighter colors reduce the light amplification potential, however, it will not be covered under our standard warranty if light amplification occurs.
How Do I Minimize The Light Amplification Risk?
-After installation, the preferred method of storage is that the boat (or any other surface of application) be covered. Marine Mat pads are very durable, but they will last longer and the colors will fade more slowly if they are not exposed to the elements when not in use. Examples include keeping the boat; in a garage, covered with a canvas boat cover, in a covered boat slip, etc. Also keeping the bimini top up and shading the cockpit area helps to keep temperatures down.
-Chrome hardware on transom table leg mounts and cockpit table leg mounts can be sanded or otherwise given a matte finish to help reduce potential for light amplification.
-On select Yamaha models JetBoatPilot has observed common areas which appear to be more susceptible to light amplification. On these select models JetBoatPilot has begun to develop mitigation pads which can be adhered to the vertical surface which has been found to commonly cause the light amplification problem. On these select boat models mitigation pads will be included with your new Marine Mat kit and if installed properly will help to minimize the potential for light amplification.
Does Choosing A Lighter Color Minimize The Risk Of Light Amplification?
Yes, choosing a lighter color Marine Mat material reduces the surface temperature in most cases. JetBoatPilot has chosen "Cool Colors" and has made them available as an alternative to the standard color choices which have been available up through July 2016.
Do Certain Geographic Areas Experience More Light Amplification Than Others?
Yes, southern states have higher temperatures than northern states. With that said this does not mean that if you live in Illinois that you won't run the risk of having light amplification problems.
