You will have to drill new holes if you want the chair to lock facing the steering wheel. I have no idea what boat they based this on but whoever made it failed to do so correctly as this is a common complaint I've been seeing. I am also having issues getting it to rise easily, maybe that's user error on my part but the holes not being aligned correctly is my main complaint with the product.
Holes of the base do not line up. Seat will lock in at 45 degree angle. Otherwise pedestal is of great quality.
